Mennonite Women are Shedding their Düaks During Heat Wave

STEINBACH, MB

Thousands of Mennonite woman descended AD Penner Park this afternoon to watch the local EMMC-EMC-MC slo-pitch tournament, but soon found they had to make a few adjustment to their attire.

“Oba, I’ve experienced a heat wave before, but this is over the top,” said Mrs. Martens, tossing aside her düak and letting her hair flow in the wind. “I’m even thinking of rolling down the brown nylons a little.”

As soon as Martens removed her head covering, dozens of other women did the same.

“Jauma, her husband is on the elder board,” said Mrs. Sawatzky. “If Mrs. Martens can get away with it, then so can we!”

There was such a huge pile of kerchiefs on the slo-pitch field that the umpire had to pause the game to assess the situation.

“Normally we have to pause after the third inning to clean up the zoat,” said Mr. Fehr, “but it looks like the women and their düaks have outdone the knackers this time.”

If things don’t cool down soon, Mrs. Martens says the next thing she’ll remove is her petticoat and crinoline.
