Mennonite Mother and Daughter Give Birth Just Hours Apart

ST. JACOBS, ON

Edith Funk, 42, of St. Jacobs gave birth to a bouncing baby boy named Jacob just three hours before her daughter Bethany, 20, gave birth to Edith’s first granddaughter Breanne.

“I was sure glad my son Jacob was born before my granddaughter Breanne,” said Edith. “It’s just not right for an uncle to be younger than his niece. Trust me. I lived through that myself. It’s a constant embarrassment.”

For Edith, baby Jacob was her 12th child, but she’s just as excited for her first grandchild.

“They can play together. Share clothes. All that,” said Edith. “Plus, I’m really looking forward to being in the nursery room at church with my daughter Bethany.”

Bethany is equally excited about the birth of both her first child and her new brother.

“It’s great being a new mother and big sister,” said Bethany. “I can’t foresee any trouble at all.”

Unbeknownst to anyone at the moment, Little Breanne and Jacob are condemned to spend their lives with everyone assuming they’re cousins.
