Curling fans from across the world will be descending on the small Mennonite community of Steinbach this week to witness the curling elite in action.
“Normally we just get to see Mrs. Loewen’s hair in curlers every Thursday when she reaches into her mailbox for the Carillon News,” said Mrs. Enns. “But to think we’re going to get to see the best curlers in the world right here in Steinbach. Nah, oba.”
The best curlers will be at the Southeast Event Centre all week and Mrs. Enns already has her seats.
“I hear Mrs. Klassen is coming all the way from Mountain Lake, Minnesota with her hair in curlers,” said Mrs. Enns. “I just can’t wait to see those things in action.”
Mrs. Enns has already booked a hair appointment for the morning before the tournament.
“That’s a little out my wheelhouse,” said local barber Spencer Toews. “I don’t normally do women’s perms, but I guess I can make an exception during the Grand Slam of Curling.”
The local dollar store was also jammed packed with folks buying those hot pink plastic hair curlers.
