Hopes of McDonald’s Dashed as Mennonite Children Told “We Have Perfectly Good Food at Home!”

LEAMINGTON, ON

The Hildebrandt family drove into the big city of Leamington this weekend to pick up a truck load of items at the local Walmart. Hopes of stopping for Happy Meals were quickly dashed, however, as the children were told in no uncertain terms that “we have perfectly good food at home.”

Na, junges, we have tomato soup at home, so no need to stop for hamburgers,” said Mrs. Hildebrandt. “What do you think we are, made of money?”

The Hildebrandt kids suffered all day hauling around junk their parents were buying at Walmart, and hoped that their hardwork would pay off.

“Well, it did pay off!” exclaimed Mr. Hildebrandt. “You have a roof over your head and tomato soup in your belly, do you not?”

The Hildebrandts once stopped for ice cream at McDonalds in the summer of 1987 and the parents have been regretting it ever since.

“It gives the wrong impression,” said Mr. Hildebrandt. “It’s time these kids learned a thing or two about thrift.”
