Mennonite Man Narrowly Escapes Church Service in Catering Truck

MOUNTAIN LAKE, MN

Area man Donald Ausfahrt narrowly escaped the imminent threat of having to clean up the chairs after the church potluck this week. Ausfahrt led everyone to believe he was in the back room scrubbing pots and pans, when in fact he’d made his secret escape in a catering truck.

“We should have known right away what he was up to,” said Sarah Fehr. “Why would the church ever hire a catering company when you’ve got more than 200 Mennonite ladies willing to do the cooking?”

The catering truck escape only became known days later when Mrs. Fehr, the church secretary, was compiling announcements for the bulletin.

“He basically confessed,” said Mrs. Fehr. “He had a pretty brazen attitude about it. Sure he escaped clean up duty, but he should think about all the other men and women who had to pick up the slack during his absence.”

Ausfahrt said he had no choice but to escape out back.

“It wasn’t so much the clean-up duty I was worried about,” said Ausfahrt. “I knew if I escaped out back, I wouldn’t have to be polite and wave to the Lutherans across the street.”

Ausfahrt later clarified that his escape was not really so much an “escape” as it was an “exit.”
