Mennonite Church Packs Basement to Sing Hymns and Watch ‘Die Hard’

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, ON

Folks at the North South Niagara MBBM Church sure were in a festive mood this week after they gathered in the basement to eat peanuts in paper bags, sing “Der Friedensfurst” and, most importantly, watch Die Hard together as a church family.

“It’s an annual tradition here at North South MBBM,” said Pastor Dan Kroeker. “Nothing warms the cockles of my heart like a good 2-hour violent action flick.”

The event sure draws crowds as everyone was invited from toddlers to seniors and everyone in between.

“We see it as an outreach event,” said Pastor Dan. “Get them in to watch Die Hard, then share a few sugar cookies … and the Gospel, of course.”

Pastor Dan says each guest is given a Christmas-theme Gospel tract entitled “Are you ready to Die Hard?” to which audience members respond with a rousing “yippee-ki-yay, Pastor Kroeker!”
