BIRDS HILL PARK, MB
Area man Wally Dueck, 51, made almost $200,000 selling highly-desirable spots in the shade at the Winnipeg Folk Festival this weekend.
“Hey, you look a little sun-stroked there, now, don’t you?” said Dueck. “Why not spend some time in the shade I’ve got over here. I’ll let you have it for a bargain.”
Dueck tasked his wife and ten children with occupying the shade until such time as a buyer was willing to cough up the cash.
“Move over, Timmy, it looks like we’ve got a bite,” said Dueck. “That’ll be just $500 a square foot, Mr. Penner. You can keep it the whole afternoon.”
Dueck kept hoping for the temperatures to rise and his prayers were answered.
“When it hit 35 degrees, I knew I’d never have to work another day in my life,” said Dueck. “There was a bidding war for my wife Susie’s spot. Reached $10 grand a foot. Not bad, I must say.”
Folk Fest attendees say they weren’t prepared at all for the sun, especially since the whole festival is usually awash in thunder storms. As for Dueck, he was arrested late Sunday afternoon for selling real estate without a license.
