Pair of Used Communion Cups Sit Uncollected for Three Months

GRUNTHAL, MB

The ushers at East Grunthal Mennonite Church are in the hot seat this week after a pair of communion cups were discovered in the pews a full three months after the last communion.

Mensch ekj saj, these are the Kroeker’s cups from the last time,” said Mrs. Dueck, who had ventured into the Kroeker’s pew on a particularly busy Sunday morning. “What are the ushers doing after the service if not picking up the cups? I sure hope they’re not fellowshipping in the lobby when they should be collecting cups!”

Accused of dereliction of usher duty are 42-year-old Pat Unger and his 43-year-old wife Debbie.

“We don’t expect a lot from our ushers, but there’s one thing we cannot tolerate and that is uncollected communion cups,” said Pastor Dave. “I think we’re going to have to demote the Ungers to bulletin-folding duty. Good luck with the paper cuts, Ungers!”

Still the church elder board is trying to figure out how the cups went unnoticed for so long.

“I think it’s time we paid a visit to the Kroekers,” said Pastor Dave. “Looks like they haven’t been in church in a while.”

In their defence, the Kroekers says they only show up when name brand Welch’s is being served.
