Manitoba to be Renamed Mennotoba

WINNIPEG, MB

In a 7-2 decision this past week, the Supreme Court of Manitoba has voted to change the name of the province to Mennotoba … in honour of the Friesens.

“There are more Friesens than any other surname in this province,” said Supreme Court justice Fred Friesen. “It’s only fitting that we have a provincial name to match.”

The court also ruled that Winnipeg would be renamed Vanapag to match the local pronunciation.

“I don’t think these new names will take much adjustment,” said Friesen. “Besides, the Mannonites will continue to call it Mannotoba anyway. Close enough.”

Several Manitobans expressed support for Friesen’s decision, while others figured that simply naming the province Freezin’ might suit just as well.
