Man Waving from Undecorated Pickup Truck Wins Top Prize at Steinbach Parade

STEINBACH, MB

Area man Dave Unger, 61, has snagged top prize at the Steinbach parade this morning for his totally normal and undecorated pickup truck driven by a guy in a t-shirt and jeans.

“I thought about adding a few balloons, but I didn’t want to overdo it,” said Unger. “I knew that my smiling face and ’98 Dodge Ram would blow away the competition.”

Judges were impressed with the fact that Unger had given his truck a fresh wash and had even gone to all the trouble of buying a small bag of No Name brand jujubes to toss into the crowd.

“We don’t see floats of this calibre very often,” said parade judge Erin von Riesen. “I especially liked that he cranked up the tunes as he drove by. It’s little details like that that make all the difference.”

Unger managed to defeat several other undecorated pickup trucks and a car or two with various smiling politicians.

“It’s nice to be recognized, especially when you put this much effort into a parade float,” said Unger. “The company truck’s gotta pay for itself somehow.”

Attendees were really impressed with Dave’s float, though the word on the street about the parade is that, in general, there just weren’t enough horses.
