Adventurous Manitoban Drives Right to the Top of Province’s Highest Mountain

BALDY MOUNTAIN, MB

Area man Pete Rempel braved a completely paved highway this week and became the first member of his immediate family to drive right to the top of Manitoba’s highest mountain.

“It’s a remarkable achievement,” said mountaineering expert Mr. Thiessen. “Think of all the hours he spent preparing and getting in shape for this journey. I mean he had to gas up the car, check the washer fluid, maybe even fill the cooler with Papsi.”

Rempel is downplaying the achievement, saying that anyone could have done it.

“Now, seriously, I know it seems difficult. Took me maybe 5-10 minutes to drive up there,” said Rempel. “But like my father always said, if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.”

Rempel will be given the Order of Manitoba this week and will be acknowledged by the Premier himself in the Manitoba Legislature this week.

“I think I’m going to get bipartisan support, maybe even tri-partisan support, on this one,” said Premier Wab Kinew. “I think we can all agree that driving to the top of Baldy Mountain is the greatest mountaineering achievement in the history of our province.”
