World’s Most Daring Mennonite Man Tries the Mild Spice

STEINBACH, MB

Andre Unrau, 43, of Steinbach has entered the Guinness Book of Records this week after trying the mild spice at the new Chica’s Chicken in Steinbach.

“No Mennonite has ever ventured beyond the plain chicken,” said Unrau. “But I believe Steinbach gets a bad rap in the media and I’m trying to give a different impression about us Mennonites. We can handle mild spice.”

Despite these brave proclamations, the slight bit of heat caused Unrau to down more than 3 litres of cola within minutes of biting into the chicken.

“This is delicious. No wonder they got a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin guide,” said Unrau. “I’m not sure what spices they’re using, but it sure ain’t the star anise and Roger’s Golden Syrup I’m used to.”

Unrau says his Winnipeg friends are super jealous that Steinbach has as Chica’s Chicken before they do, especially since the only other locations are in Toronto.

“Such a progressive town, that Steinbach. This Nashville-via-Toronto chicken has really changed my understanding of Steinbach,” said Winnipegger Garth Wiens. “Heck, this chicken might even get me to venture beyond the Perimeter once in a while.”

Meanwhile, Unrau plans to buy a bucket of Chicken Chef just to cleanse his pallet from the “extreme heat” of his mild spice Chica’s.
