Winkler Attempts to Rename Morden

WINKLER, MB

After years of heated rivalry, Winkler officials voted 6 to 1 in favour of renaming the neighbouring community of Morden as Winkler West.

“We also were considering Englisherville and Shekjbenjeltown but ultimately we figured a more literal name was for the best,” said Winkler spokesperson Al Vankla. “The funny thing is, all it takes is a Sharpie and a map of the Pembina Valley to make the change.”

Morden would not take the change sitting down, however, and has now refused to buy any roll kuchen and rabus from Winkler until they agree to change the name back.

“I mean, we’re the ones who named them Winkler in the first place,” said Morden resident Pete Dyck. “Plus, these days we even share a hospital and a Mr. Mike’s, so surely we can get along.”

In exchange for letting them keep the name Morden, Winkler has asked for full possession of Bruce the Mosasaur.

“But we’re not going to give in to their demands,” said Dyck. “After all, next thing you know, they’ll be decided which side of the river is Jantsied.”
