Vinyl Outsells CDs at MCC Store for the First Time Since 1987

SWIFT CURRENT, SK

For the first time in more than 30 years, the local MCC store sold more copies of the various vinyl iterations of the Plett Family Singers than they did of the CDs they had sitting around of the Gospel Bottom Boys.

“Vinyl has really made a comeback,” siad Swift current MCC manager Diane Klassen. “You should see all the young people in their 60s and 70s snatching up our huge selection of Nana Mouskari records.”

Also popular are basically anything with smiling blonde teenagers wearing Polyester on the cover.

“People prefer the warm soothing sound of vinyl,” said Klassen. “All the audiophiles I know really love a good all analogue pressing of the Saskatoon Mennonite Men’s All Old Testament Choir.”

According to stats the Swift Current store sold more than 7 LPs last year, while CD sales were stuck at just 5.

“Vinyl’s hot right now,” said Klassen, “but it’ll never be a popular as our 8-tracks.”
