Winnipeg Metro Region Hoists Centennial Cup

WINNIPEG METRO REGION, MB

The Winnipeg Metro Region Nighthawks have become just the fourth team in MJHL history to win the national championship.

“We’re so proud of our team the Nighthawks,” said Winnipeg mayor Scott Gillingham. “It’s just amazing what our hometown boys from the Winnipeg Metro Region did this year.”

Residents of the Winnipeg Metro Region were particularly excited about the victory.

“I’ve been watching the Winnipeg Metro Region Nighthawks since they first arrived in the Winnipeg Metro Region,” said Winnipeg Metro Region resident Paul Siemens. “You know, having grown up in the area, it really makes a Winnipeg Metro Region boy proud to see something like this.”

Meanwhile, residents of Steinbach and Niverville were not so happy for their MJHL rivals.

“I guess it’s better than a Quebec team winning or something,” said Steinbach resident Steve Wiens. “But at the same time, I hate to see Winnipeg get all the attention all the time. I really would like to keep it rural if we can.”

A sign honouring the Nighthawks will be erected on the north Perimeter later this spring.
