Oba, it’s that time of year again, the Onkel Oscar awards yet. This year there were many Mannanite movies. Good thing we can stream them so no one can spot us in line at the Keystone Cinema yet.

So here they are: 2026 Mannanite Onkel Oscar nominees:

  • F1 – a movie about a bunch of young men in Honda Civics and pickup trucks doing u-turns on Main Street Steinbach.
  • Sinners – An uncut and unedited two-hour sermon by Reverend Kehler.
  • One Battle After Another – A Mennonite woman tries with all her might to get her husband Jake to lift the toilet seat.
  • Marty Supreme – Former Winkler mayor Martin Harder comes out of retirement to play high stakes competitive table tennis.
  • Train Dreams – An edge-of-your-seat thriller about William Hespeler and the early days of Niverville.
  • Bugonia – I haven’t seen this one yet, but based on the title alone it appears to be biopic about Winnipeg-based musical superstar Alexa Dirks.
  • Sentimental Value – A Mennonite woman donates her souvenir teaspoon collection to the MCC, where it goes unsold for decades.
  • Frankensteinbach – A retired science teacher from the old Steinbach Collegiate attempts to create new life from Mrs. Penner’s pickles and preserves.
