Climber Scales Credit Union Building Without Safety Gear

STEINBACH, MB

World-renowned climber Alex Honnold has just accomplished the greatest feat of his career—free soloing the credit union building in Steinbach.

“No one ever thought it could be done,” said climbing enthusiast Steve Kliewer. “But Alex has shown us that with a little bit of courage and a lot of talent, even the tallest building in a small Mennonite town can be scaled.”

The climb, which was broadcast live on Netflix, contained a few hair-raising moments, such as when Alex gave a wave to the crowd at Coffee Culture or when he leaned back to re-chalk his hands just outside the Chief Risk Manager’s office.

“I was on the edge of my seat at the thrift store across the street,” said Mrs. Martens. “It very impressive, but very scary. I told my Harry, he better not think of trying a stunt like that.”

In an interview after the climb, Alex admitted the reason he did it is because he thought it was the only way to get a loan around here.
