ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA
The state of Minnesota, famed for its lakes, cheese-stuffed hamburgers and association with the late musician Prince, has decided to forego all that and take on the new name ‘Manitoba South.’
“People think we’re way up north, but I think it’s important to let people know that there’s something even further north than we are,” said Governor Tim Walz. “It’s about time we think of ourselves as south of something, even if it’s just Manitoba.”
Especially excited about the news were residents of the small Mennonite town of Mountain Lake.
“Now that we’re part of Manitoba, we’ll finally be able to speak Low German openly again,” said Mrs. Koop. “I’m also cracking open my Mennonite Treasury Cookbook for the first time in decades!”
Manitobans have been a little more lukewarm about the name change.
“What are we supposed to call ourselves now? Nunavut South?” said Mrs. Driedger of Winnipeg. “Maybe Saskatchewan West?”
The Manitoba South Twins will be facing the Ontario South Yankees in the MLB playoffs this week.
