According to new census figures that were just released today, the city of Winkler in southern Manitoba now has more Mexican restaurants than people. At just over 14,000 Mexican restaurants, the city has the most places to get refried beans in all of Canada.
“Hey, there’s nothing wrong with having a few options when it comes to fajitas,” said local resident Billy Fehr. “Plus, after a while you get sick and tried of your Mom’s fajitas.”
Of course, Billy Fehr’s Mom’s fajitas are among the 14,000 options, but Fehr says he’s all for trying out other mom’s fajitas.
“I could absolutely devour my second cousin Tina’s enchiladas right now,” said Fehr. “But it’s so hard to get a reservation at Tina’s.”
Winkler has officially set the record for most Mexican restaurants per capita in all of Canada, though some are hoping with just a few more openings, they have may have more Mexican restaurants than churches by sometime this spring.
