ZURICH, SWITZERLAND
It’s the most anticipated race of the past five centuries. This week, thousands of Mennonites will gather in Switzerland and race through Zurich in the exhilarating Anabaptist 500.
“Of course, we’re not using cars. Basically we just have a bunch of Lutherans chase us through the city streets with pitchforks,” said event organizer Isaac Yoder. “The first one to the finish line gets excommunicated.”
The event will be broadcast live across the planet and folks are eagerly anticipating the race.
“I’ve got my money on Mary Kroeker from Fernheim Colony,” said spectator Johan Herschberger. “Not that I’m putting money on this race. That would be against my religion.”
Participants are allowed to use horses, but they must be affixed to one of those old-fashioned buggies.
“It’s part sporting event and part historical reenactment,” said Herschberger. “I’ll be handing out evangelistic tracts at each pit stop.”
The Anabaptist 500 can be seen live this Sunday afternoon on EPSN3.
