In honour of the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce engagement, the western Saskatchewan city of Swift Current has voted 4-3 this week to rename the city Taylor Swift Current.
“It was either that or rename the city after Colter Wall,” said area resident Kathy Thiessen. “But Colter Wall Current just didn’t have the same ring to it.”
The renaming ceremony will take place this weekend at Doc’s Town Heritage Village, where the new name will be made official.
“This’ll be followed by sugar cubes and ham slices in the housebarn,” said Thiessen. “We’re even hoping for a special visit by Taylor Swift Current mayor Al Bridal and the rest of the Taylor Swift Current city council.”
Local beer drinkers are already petitioning Black Bridge Brewery to make a new Cruel Summer Ale or Shake it Off Radler.
“Hey, if Moose Jaw can lay dubious claims to Al Capone, then surely we can claim Taylor Swift,” said Thiessen. “I’m sure all the motels on the TransCanada will be packed this weekend.”
The entire plan hinges on the city’s ability to persaude Travis Kelce to sign on to play for the Taylor Swift Current Broncos this season
