Encounter with Radiohead Song Sends Swiftie into Existential Crisis

WINKLER, MB

A recent encounter with Radiohead’s seminal 1997 track “Let Down” on TikTok  has spiralled Winkler-area Swiftie Melissa Sawatzky into a profound state of existential angst this week.

“Never heard such a sad and depressing song in my life,” said Sawatzky. “Are you telling me there are people out there who voluntarily listen to this stuff?”

It didn’t take long, however, and Sawatzky was sporting black lipstick and a whole new attitude about life.

“Who knew that playing an 8-second reel with the crescendo on “Let Down” would do it to me,” said Sawatzky. “But, hey, I think I can pull of Corporate Goth.”

Within the week, Sawatzky was also listening to the Cure, which had her family a little worried.

“They didn’t approve of Taylor Swift either, to be honest,” said Sawatzky. “They’re more of a Morgan Wallen kind of family.”

Still, as her community’s only Swiftie, Sawatzky was at least tolerated in Winkler. With this new affinity for Radiohead, however, she’s been asked to pack her bags and move to Morden.
