Despite a more than $75 million bribe paid to the local farm implements dealership to host the film, the new documentary about my Taunte Lina has proven to be a huge flop.
“We thought for sure we could convince a few diehard Mennonites to show up,” said film producer Andrew Unger, “but even such riveting subject matter as my aunt Lina was not enough to get them to break their vow to never watch a movie.”
The film contains scenes such as Taunte Lina rolling out the dough for schnetke and Taunte Lina saying “nah, Jung,” to Onkel Donald on occasion.
“My Lina is a real edge of your seat thriller,” said Unger. “We’ve even got English subtitles for those who don’t understand Plautdietsch.”
Critics have called the film the “best movie of the year” and Unger hopes the film might even get snuck in as a last minute Oscar nominee.
“It ranks right up there,” said Unger. “I wouldn’t compare it to Sinners, exactly, but you might even call it One Battle to Get Onkel Donald to Church in the Morning After Another.”
