ZURICH, SWITZERLAND
A lowly donkey named Herbert has been named the official mascot of the Mennonites this week after replacing the previous mascot of a guy named Dave wearing a farmer sausage suit.
“As much as we liked the Formavorscht mascot, I think the donkey really represents what us Mennonites are all about,” said spokesperson Brad Warkentin. “Stubborn, slow to change, makes a lot of noise … but still kind of adorable if you think about it.”
Herbert was unveiled at the Anabaptism 500 celebrations in Zurich this week, where attendees gathered to acknowledge how little has changed over the past 5 centuries.
“Some call us stubborn,” said Warkentin, “but I like to say we’re just committed to our principles.”
Warkentin assured the community that the donkey was chosen because of its steadfast dedication to Anabaptist values and not because he was trying to say that something we can be a bit of an ass.
