MCC Superfans Now Known as ‘Thrifties’

ALTONA, MB

Thousands of enthusiastic shoppers gathered at their local MCC store this week to share a few hugs, exchange friendship bracelets, and get their hands on some gently used denim skirts. They’re known as ‘Thrifties’ and they’re taking the nation by storm.

“It’s so exciting to gather here on a Saturday morning in Altona with all my fellow Thrifties,” said Erin Neufeld, 29, who drove all the way from Gretna for the event. “There’s such a positive vibe. We’re checking out bargains, filling our garbage bags, and singing along to all our favourite German hymns.”

Neufeld says this is not her first Thrift Shop event and plans to tour around the country visiting several other locations.

“I never get sick of it,” said Neufeld. “It’s fun, the people are good, and the merch is more affordable than you can get anywhere else.”

So far this morning, Neufeld has purchased a skirt from the late 70s, a graphic tee from the 80s, and some Wrangler jeans that look to be from the mid-90s.

“It’s an eras tour, that’s for sure,” said Neufeld. “That’s exactly the reason Thrifties like me keep coming back to this place.”

Neufeld and her fellow Thrifties will be hitting up the MCC store in Austin, Manitoba next weekend. Local hotels are already taking advantage of the situation and charging upwards of $900 for a single night.
