ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA
Moments after the 500th anniversary service ended, a committee of Mennonites from around the world had already gathered in Addis Ababa to start planning the Anabaptism 1000 celebrations.
“I know this is a little tighter schedule than we’re used to,” said Mrs. Wiens, “but we’ll make do, I’m sure.”
The plan is to hold a church service somewhere in the world, probably Goshen.
“If it’s still around,” said Mrs. Wiens. “Otherwise we’ll just have it in the MB basement back home in Chilliwack.”
The committee has also voted on a theme song for the conference.
“We’re using the Zager and Evans song In the Year 2525,” said Wiens. “I know it’s a risky choice, but we figure by that time most Mennonites will have finally accepted rock music.”
Mrs. Wiens says he’s happy to help plan the event for the year 2525, but is unsure whether she’ll be able to attend.
