Edmonton’s small but growing Mennonite community has come to rally around their new-ish mayor after discovering he shared an interest in their favourite snack.

“Nah, oba, I really had no interest in municipal politics until I heard they voted in a Knack-Zoat mayor,” said Dave Peters, who recently moved to the big city from Tofield. “I guess I have more in common with this Edmontonian than I thought.”

The news quickly spread in the Mennonite community and many gathered in front of city hall to play knipsbrat and, of course, to knack some zoat.

“We had a big pile there on the front lawn of the city hall there,” said Peters. “But it’s okay, I’m sure the mayor can clean it up yet.”

Mennonites from as far away as Taber and La Crete have flocked to city to greet the new mayor.

“Finally someone who’s taking us Mennonites seriously,” said Peters. “Next thing you know, Calgary will elect a Formavorscht mayor just to keep up.”

Mayor Knack-Zoat first initiative is to change the hockey arena to Roger’s Golden Syrup Place.
