A visiting couple from southern Manitoba made a shocking discovery in La Crete, Alberta this week: strawberries on vereniki.
“Nah, oba, I’ve never even heard of such,” said Andrew Unger of Steinbach. “What’s next – Saskatoon berries on kielke?”
Unger has had vereniki all over the world and not once had he ever had them with strawberries until his visit to Dining Delight in La Crete.
“I never knew it gave such,” said Unger. “You can be arrested back home in Steinbach for something like this. My brother spent six months in prison for putting ketchup on his vereniki.”
It didn’t take long, however, and Unger was convinced.
“This is delicious,” said Unger. “I’m going to have to bring this whole strawberries on vereniki thing back home to Steinbach.”
As of press time, Unger was in high level talks with Steinbach restauranteur Bryan Bartel about putting it on the menu.
