AOL Ends Dial-Up Internet Mere Days After Mennonite Man Signed Up For It

NEWTON, KS

Area man Bob Unruh was excited to join the Internet age this week only to discover a couple days later that his snazzy new dial-up connection was being cut off.

“Oba, America Online? American Offline is more like it,” said Unruh. “And all this just as I was getting my very own MySpace account.”

In just his first three days of dial-up Internet, Unruh had also created a GeoCities page to share his MIDI versions of all his favourite hymns.

“Now I don’t know what I’ll do,” said Unruh. “It looks like I’ll never be able to Ask Jeeves anything ever again.”

Unruh says he finds the noisy dial-up sound rather pleasant and soothing, but has resigned himself to the fact that his days of voyaging on Netscape Navigator may be behind him.
