There was a brief moment of considerable anxiety this afternoon after a Mennonite in the local liquor store happened to spot another Mennonite in the liquor store.
“I was minding my own business on the way to pick up a nice bottle of Chianti, when I turned the aisle and there was Mr. Unger checking out the Blumstein beer,” said Mr. Fehr. “Of course I immediately averted by gaze and pulled my hat down over my eyes so he wouldn’t recognize me.”
Moments later, however, it dawned on Fehr that if he was in the liquor store then so was Unger and that meant he had just as much reason to report Unger as Unger had to report Fehr.
“So, logically, as long as you’re careful not to park your car too close, there’s nothing to be worried about,” said Fehr. “Anyone who might spot you is just as guilty as you are.”
Fehr said he’d been hiding his identity in the liquor store for years and is glad he finally realized how nonsensical that all is.
“I do the same thing in the movie theatre,” said Fehr, “but from now on if someone catches me in row 5 to see the new Magic Mike movie, I’m not going to worry about it.”
Unger says he’s been walking freely around the liquor store for years and doesn’t know why it took Fehr so long to figure out how things work.
“There’s nothing to worry about,” says Unger. “Unless, of course, he’s a spy for Pastor Dave.”
Pastor Dave was spotted at the liquor store later that afternoon.
