Leamington Residents Celebrate Canada’s World Cup Victory with Giant Ketchup-Covered Vereniki

LEAMINGTON, ON

Moments after Leamington’s own Stephen Eustáquio scored the game-winning goal for Canada this afternoon, the ladies at the local Mennonite church were busy rolling out the dough for the world’s largest vereniki.

“And since we’re in Leamington, we had to cover it in ketchup,” said Mrs. Toews. “French’s, of course.”

The giant vereniki, or perogy if you prefer, was consumed within a record-breaking 15 minutes after the youth group from the local EMC church got their hands on it.

“A vereniki like that can only feed about half a dozen hungry teenagers,” said Mrs. Toews. “We immediately began prepping the kitchen to make another one.”

Leamington EMC asked Team Canada to join them from the feast, but doctors suggested they better not try it until after the World Cup as over-consumption of vereniki can leave people feeling a little sluggish.

“Why else do you think we invented meddachschlop?” said Mrs. Toews.
