Trump Praises Mennonite Man’s “Good Plautdietsch”

CAMPO 69, MEXICO

After a trip to Chihuahua this past week to negotiate a trade deal for Takis and Peter Wall’s delicious disco, US President Donald Trump praised local man Guillermo Kehler for his “good Plautdietsch.”

“I thought for sure I’d need a translator down here. Where’d you learn the Low German?” said Trump. “Did you grow up in Winkler or something.”

Kehler tried to explain to the president that as a resident of Campo 69 he’s actually grown up with Plautdietsch his whole life.

“Nah, oba, that I can’t believe that,” said Trump. “I thought for sure he was from Leamington or La Crete once yet.”

It took some convincing, but Kehler managed to prove to the president that he was, indeed, a native Plautdietsch speaker.

“Diewel, Dietschlaunt, Jauma lied!” said Kehler. “If that doesn’t prove I’m a Plautdietsch man I don’t know what will.”

Trump was utterly flabbergasted by Kehler’s proficiency in the language and immediately appointed him White House Press Secretary, although rumour has it he plans to fire him in just a couple weeks.
