More than 50 years after the Englishers did it, 8 Mennonites families from Mexico have finally landed on the moon, where they quickly established their most remote colony yet.
“That’s one small step for a Menno, one giant leap for Mennonite-kind,” said astronaut Karen Voth, as she stepped onto the moon. “Let me tell you, we’re not in Cuauhtémoc anymore!”
The historic Mennonite moon landing took at a time when economic pressures have sent many Mennonites looking for a new home.
“It can be a little chilly,” said Voth. “But it’s nothing compared to a winter in Winnipeg. Plus everyone here speaks fluent Low German.”
Children have already been told that if you look up at the moon on a clear night and squint just right you can see the Mennonite on the Moon smiling right back at you.
