After fierce competition all week, Steinbach mayor Earl Funk came home with gold medal in the Grand Slam of Butchering this week.
“His farmer sausages in the 8th end were what really did it,” said commentator Jennifer Janzen. “Although he did serve up some impressive schinke fleisch in the 4th end as well.”
Earl Funk took to the ice after the game where he was presented with the trophy by Silvana Tirinzoni, who came all the way from Switzerland to bestow this honour.
“There was a lot of great butchering this week,” said Tirinzoni, “but this trophy can only be won by one butcher, who just so happens to be the mayor, I guess.”
Also victorious this week were several commentators who were awarded the Grand Slam of Butchering the Pronunciation of Players’ Names.
