Mennonite Woman Recalls Traumatic ‘Near-Dance Experience’

DALMENY, SK

Area woman and budding writer Bertha Froese has published a new memoir entitled ‘Dancing is For Real’ which recounts her horrific near-dance experience in the summer of 2012.

“There I was at my cousin’s wedding yet,” said Bertha. “I was sitting at the table. I think there was some music playing. All I know is it sure wasn’t any hymn I had heard before. Well, then, this handsome man in grey slacks came up to me, and asked me if I’d like to join him. I said sure. I had no idea what was going to happen. Well, the next thing you know he was twirling and whirling me around all over the room. It was truly awful.”

After years of reflection, Bertha is only now coming to terms with what happened to her on that fateful night.

“I almost danced,” said Bertha. “I know that some people don’t believe dancing exists, but I can tell you it’s very real. I know this because for a few minutes I was there…dancing.”

Bertha’s new book is intended as a warning to people to think seriously about what their future might hold and whether it will include dancing or not.

“I pray that my book will be a blessing to all those Mennonites out there who have doubts about their non-dancing faith,” said Bertha. “Dancing is most definitely for real…and it’s absolutely horrific.”
