Bethany Seibel, 23, of Wymark, Saskatchewan is set to become the first Mennonite woman ever to participate in the Labour Day Classic this weekend.
“Yup, they’re inducing labour on Sunday. I tried to tell them it can’t be during the big game, but they wouldn’t hear it,” said Seibel. “As long as they don’t ask me to kick field goals I should be okay.”
Seibel’s husband Jacob, 22, says he’s been tuning in to the game on Labour Day ever since he was a child and is so proud of the fact his wife is involved this year.
“Had to give my tickets away,” said Jacob, “but I couldn’t let all those Lamaze classes go to waste.”
The Seibels are hoping the child will be born by half time, so they can at least catch the third and fourth quarter.
“I assume by then the Riders will have things well at hand,” said Bethany, “but it’s still fun to see all those Bombers fan leave in droves. I wouldn’t want my new son or daughter to miss that.”
The Seibels are so confident in a Riders victory that they promise to raise their child to cheer for whichever team wins this week’s game.
