Mennonite Man Finally Allowed to Stay Up Late Enough to Watch M*A*S*H*

MITCHELL, MB

Area man Sam Ens, 43, has just been informed by his parents that he has finally reached the age where he can stay up late and watch M*A*S*H* with them.

“It’s our birthday gift to him,” said Sam’s father Earl. “You know, we always had him in bed by 8, but I think he’s old enough now that we can finally stretch it a little.”

Even though Sam moved out, got married, and had children of his own, he still gets a phone call from his mom every evening to make sure he’s in bed and not sneaking out into the living room to watch M*A*S*H*.

“Whenever he heard that theme song, he used to crawl out of his bed and try to go unnoticed as he peaked his head above the couch behind us,” said Sam’s mother Anne. “But my Earl has a keen sense for intruders, especially when M*A*S*H is on.”

Rumour has it Sam spent most of his time in the 1980s as a spy for Pastor Dave, who was trying to catch Mennonite parents in the act of watching television.
