Morden Man Sets Up Corn Stand Early This Year

MORDEN, MB

Area man Paul Goertzen has decided he’s going to beat everyone else to the punch this year and put up his corn stand at the end of April.

“Come get your sweet delicious corn,” said Goertzen, cracking open a can of Green Giant. “Might as well get some garden fresh Mott’s applesauce while you’re at it.”

Goertzen’s corn stand is the very first one in the Pembina Valley this year, a full 4 months earlier than his competitors.

“I mean if you want to wait until August that’s your prerogative,” said Goertzen. “But I much prefer to get my corn while it’s still fresh.”

Goertzen says he’ll be using the honour system and anyone is welcome to just drop a toonie in the jar at the end of his driveway and grab a can.

“Or just a loonie if it’s got a dent in it,” said Goertzen.

Meanwhile residents of neighbouring Winkler are frantically calculating whether they’re still saving money on canned corn if they factor in the cost of driving all the way to Morden.
