Blame allergies or changing tastes, but the Mennonites of Winnipeg have now decided to fill paper bags filled with edamame instead of peanuts this year.
“We’re also offering macadamia and pine nuts,” said Mrs. Brandt. “We’re going to let the kids take their pick.”
The Christmas oranges in each bag are also being replaced with passion fruit or durian for those who prefer.
“Those Christmas oranges were hit and miss anyway,” said Mrs. Brandt. “One batch is good and the next is terrible. We can’t take our chances anymore.”
Meanwhile, the country Mennonites will be consuming their paper bags filled with peanuts until sometime in mid-February.
